Drew Barrymore’s gorgeous stand mixer is just $75 at Walmart

Drew Barrymore’s gorgeous stand mixer is just at Walmart

When someone asks me, a former professional baker, whether they should invest in a pricey stand mixer or a more affordable hand mixer, I typically tell them that the latter will suffice for most home baking needs. However, I would recommend owning a stand mixer if you’re looking to tackle more involved pastry projects, and I just spotted the bestselling stand mixer from Drew Barrymore’s Beautiful home and kitchen line. It would be a fabulous entry point into the world of stand mixers, so let’s give those arms a break!

If stand mixer prices usually have you seeing red, this crimson stunner is here to suppress any sticker shock.

As I mentioned, a hand mixer (like this Beautiful beaut, also on sale!) can do almost everything a stand mixer can, from beating eggs to creaming butter and sugar together, but the keyword here is “almost.” For instance, whipping egg whites into stiff peaks for merinue is nearly impossible without a stand mixer (at least, within a reasonable amount of time), and if you’re preparing something with many components, having a stand mixer lets you attend to other tasks while it takes care of the rest. One ingredient I always try to avoid when possible? Elbow grease.

In addition to being downright gorgeous, the Beautiful Stand Mixer has some nifty features, like a splash guard that’ll keep clouds of flour from making you cough. It also boasts 12 mixing speeds — far more than my KitchenAid has — and comes with flat beater, whisk and dough hook attachments for all of your cake batter, cookie dough and bread-kneading needs.

Its 3.5-quart bowl is compact, but according to the brand, it can accommodate enough dough for five dozen cookies, and if your kitchen lacks space, you’ll appreciate its smaller footprint.

With more than 7,000 perfect ratings, this mixer is truly a Walmart whiz kid.

“Everyone wants that fancy brand-name mixer, but I have to say this mixer is fantastic!” exclaimed a beaming baker. “This mixer is lightweight, so it’s easy to put in the cabinet and pull it out when needed. It has suction pads on the bottom and, holy moly, this thing will stick to your counter right as you put it down.”

“I have arthritis in my hands, and mixing dough or pulling chicken used to be painful and exhausting,” shared another satisfied shopper. “This mixer handles both jobs perfectly. It mixes my sourdough just the way it needs to be without any strain on my hands, and it tears chicken thighs apart for barbecue with zero effort. The motor never lags, even with heavy dough, and cleanup is a breeze.”

“The design is different from the stand mixers I’ve had, and the changes make sense,” dished a discerning devotee. “I like having the shield that locks into place above the beater. It prevents messes, especially when mixing flour into batter, and it allows for fewer stops when mixing, as you can add eggs and some other ingredients through the hole in the shield. … I like that the low settings are truly slow, unlike some mixers, which don’t have an actual low setting.”

“I was very skeptical of this mixer, having owned both a professional KitchenAid and a home Cuisinart,” confessed a convert. “Very impressed with quality and appearance. … The mixer performed great! No wobble, steady. Quieter than I expected. If I had to suggest any improvements, a handle on the side of the bowl would be nice, and the ability to ‘whip clear’ the beater or whisk by running it high out of whatever you’re mixing. But these two things did not deter my enjoyment.”

“This mixer meets my needs perfectly,” wrote a final fan. “I have a small kitchen, and I did not need a big, heavy mixer.” They did heed: “The bowl may be a little small for some needs, but overall it has been a good purchase for me. And it is quite pretty.”
