Advanced Technology

Gentle+ technology optimizes comfort & time
Most blood pressure monitors are programmed to inflate the cuff to a very high preset value that keeps your arm under pressure for an extended period of time.
Gentle + Technology optimizes the amount of pressure and time required to complete your readings.

Hypertension Risk Indicator
With each reading, the monitor will interpret your measurement and using a simple bar graph will clearly display your results as compared to the standards set by the National Institutes of Health.
The position of the bar indicates if the readout value is within the normal (green), pre-hypertension (yellow), stage 1 hypertension (orange), or stage 2 hypertension (dark orange) range.

Irregular Heartbeat Detection
This monitor automatically detects and gives a warning signal during the appearance of an irregular heartbeat, or arrhythmia. It will also provide accurate measurements for those with pre-existing irregular heartbeats.
If an irregular heartbeat occurs during a measurement, the irregular heartbeat symbol will appear.
Directions

Wide-range arm cuff fits arms 8.7” – 16.5”
Microlife’s SureFit cuff combines the sizing of traditional medium and large cuffs into the convenience of one. This adjustable cuff fits approximately 80% of all adult arms and greatly enhances ease of use and overall accuracy. Sure-Fit Cuff fits arms 8.7” – 16.5”
The proper fit is essential for accurate blood pressure readings. To ensure you get the right cuff, measure your upper arm with a fabric measuring tape, wrapping it around the thickest part of your bicep.
The average arm circumference for a woman is 11″, and the average for a man is 13″. Our wide-range cuff can accommodate arm circumferences from 8.7″ to 16.5″ and fits most adults.
If your arm size falls outside of the cuff’s range, other Microlife cuffs are available. It is important to use only Microlife cuffs with our monitors, as others are not compatible.

How do I take my blood pressure?
To measure blood pressure and pulse:
Make sure the cuff tube is securely connected to the monitor.Slide arm through cuff on bare skin until the bottom edge is about ½” above your elbow. Tighten the cuff until it is snug against your arm without being too tight. Your cuff should be positioned over your brachial artery. You’ll find your brachial artery on the inside of your elbow on the pinky side.Sit and rest for 5 minutes prior to measurement. Relax your arm and push the start button.
Complete instructions in English and Spanish included.

Natural fluctuations in blood pressure
Your blood pressure is constantly fluctuating, and varies greatly on a daily and seasonal basis.
Like your pulse, it can change for obvious reasons, like during exercise. However, it can also change in not so obvious situations, like if you are feeling stressed, if you’re talking, or even based on how recently you’ve eaten. So, in order to get an accurate measurement, it is important to be in a resting state, and to measure at the same times each day.
The illustration is an example of fluctuations that could occur in an imaginary day.
Just as a time lapse video tells more than a snapshot, the average of several measurements, obtained over several days under similar conditions, is the best way to accurately determine your blood pressure.
Blood Pressure Basics

What is hypertension?
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a chronic medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is elevated. The level of blood pressure is established by a part of the brain known as the circulatory center and is regulated by feedback from the central nervous system. It is adjusted by the strength and frequency of the heart rate (pulse) and by the width of the blood vessel walls. The level of arterial blood pressure changes periodically during heart activity:
During the “blood ejection” (systole) stage, the value is maximal and referred to as the systolic blood pressure value, while at the end of heart’s “rest period” (diastole), the value is minimal and referred to as the diastolic blood pressure value. The blood pressure values must lie within certain normal ranges in order to prevent particular diseases.

What do the blood pressure numbers mean?
Blood pressure is determined by the circulatory center in the brain and is made up of two numbers:
Systolic (the first number): shows how much pressure the blood is exerting against the artery walls as the heart contracts (pumps).
Diastolic (the second number): shows how much pressure the blood is exerting against the artery walls while the heart rests (between beats). In addition to blood pressure, it’s important to monitor the pulse, or the number of times a heart beats in a minute.

Tips for taking an accurate measurement
There are simple steps you can take to ensure an accurate measurement. Even seemingly small things can raise your readings. Follow these steps for an accurate measurement:
Always measure using the same arm, at the same time of day. Avoid eating, tobacco or any form of exertion before you take your measurement. Make sure your bladder is empty. A full bladder can increase systolic pressure by 10-15 mmHg. Ensure clothing does not interfere with the cuff. A cuff over clothing can raise systolic pressure by 40 mmHg. Sit quietly at a table with both feet flat on the floor, avoiding movement and talking during a measurement. Talking can raise systolic pressure by 10-15 mmHg.
