Hi there,
We’ve noticed many of you shopping for cat toys are new to this whole “cat parent” thing—maybe you just adopted a kitty, or took in a stray that wandered into your life. Let us start by saying: That’s amazing. Opening your home to a feline friend takes so much heart, and it’s totally normal to feel a little unsure about what comes next.
No matter how your journey with your new cat began, we can tell you’re already a kind, caring person—and that’s half the battle. At Taoleon, we want to help make this transition easier for both you and your new fur baby. Here are a few tips to help your kitty settle in:
Tips for Your New Cat’s First Days Home
1. Set up a “safe zone” first
Cats feel safest in small, quiet spaces when they’re new. Pick a calm room (like a bathroom or cozy bedroom) and fill it with the essentials: a clean litter box (away from food and water!), fresh water, their food (if you know what they were eating before, stick with it for now—sudden changes can upset their stomach), and a soft bed or blanket. This gives them a low-stress space to start exploring.
2. Let them lead the way
Resist the urge to scoop them up for cuddles right away! New kitties (especially strays or rescues) might hide, hiss, or act skittish—that’s their way of feeling safe. Sit quietly in their space, talk softly, and let them come to you. Letting them set the pace builds trust faster than anything.
3. Keep food simple (for now)
If you don’t know their old diet, start with a gentle, high-quality kitten or adult cat food (ask your vet for recommendations!). Offer small portions—they might not eat much at first, and that’s okay. Always have fresh water out, and avoid treats or human food until they’re settled.
4. Watch for “normal” vs. “concerning”
It’s common for cats to hide, eat less, or use the litter box less in the first 2-3 days. But if they refuse food/water for more than 24 hours, have diarrhea, sneeze a lot, or seem extra lethargic, call a vet ASAP.
5. Take it slow with other pets/kids
If you have other animals or little ones, keep them separated at first. Let your new cat get comfy before introducing them—even then, do it in short, supervised sessions. Cats (and kids!) need time to adjust to a new family member.
Remember, every cat is different—some settle in in a day, others take a few weeks. There’s no “right” timeline, just lots of patience and love. Don’t give up on them—those wobbly, uncertain early days are just the first chapter of a beautiful, lifelong bond.
You’re doing great, and we’re so excited for you and your new feline friend.

&Safety Redefined: No More Neck Entanglement Risks& Traditional elastic rope cat toys often snarl around cats’ necks, putting them in danger—but our design ends that worry. We use a thickened, ultra-soft non-stretchy rope (no risky elasticity here) with all bounce concentrated in the spring, eliminating the chance of the rope constricting or tangling so tightly your cat can’t break free. Your feline friend gets to pounce, bat, and play without restraint, while you relax knowing their safety is guaranteed
