I'm am man undergoing physical therapy for rotator cuff injuries. I purchased these so I could do the exercises at home. As a man I do not have particularly large hands. Measured across the palm they are slightly larger than 3-1/2". There's barely 3-1/2" of grip between the heads so my hands actually wrap up slightly over the heads. If they weighed more than 2 lbs they might be uncomfortable to use as a result of the narrow grip. But be warned if you have large hands or wide palms these weights are probably not large enough for you.

The two dumbbells each weighed slightly more than 2 lbs (average was 0.1 lb heavy) but did not weigh exactly the same. Not a problem for my intended use. The neoprene coat seems to be evenly applied and I saw no defects. Don't know how rugged the neoprene will be in the long run.

The weights were delivered by UPS in an Amazon envelope. The weights are shipped from the factory in a cardboard box that fits the pair fairly tightly when placed side-by-side. But, during or before shipment one end of the box was completely torn off and the weights were rolling around loose in the envelope. They appear to have sustained no damage and were still enclosed in shrink wrap. But -1 star for poor packaging choice on Amazon's part.

I recently purchased the Portzon 2 lb weights and overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase. The weights are a good value for the price and they're well-made, with a solid feel to them. They're also very versatile – I've used them for a variety of exercises and they've worked well for all of them.
